Savor the Savanna Review
My husband and I were gifted this tour for our honeymoon and we booked it for our first day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We showed up at the Curiosity Animal Tours Kiosk about 15 minutes early and filled out paperwork while we waited on the rest of the guests in our tour to arrive. Around 5:00 PM our group headed through the Kilimanjaro Safaris entrance and boarded a private safari vehicle into the Harambe Wildlife Reserve.
Our tour began along much of the same route as the standard Kilimanjaro Safari but we quickly veered off usual path. Unlike the traditional Kilimanjaro Safari ride, we were able to stop our vehicle pretty frequently so that our guide could point out unique features and give interesting facts about each of the animals we passed. We also happened to pause for photographs if an animal wandered close by.
Eventually we stopped off to the side in the larger savanna and got to meet one of the caretakers at the park. He answered all of our questions and explained a lot of the work involved in caring and feeding for all the animals in the park. This turned out to be the best opportunity to see the giraffes up close as they came right by for a snack!
Afterwards, we stopped by a large viewing platform in the middle of the savanna called the Boma. Here we were served light refreshments and it was just the perfect spot to sit and observe the animals while we ate.
A selection of regional beer and wine is included in this tour for those 21 and older but I forgot my ID at the resort and opted for POG juice instead. The food was absolutely delicious and we really enjoyed everything we tasted.
After our meal, we hung around for a bit longer to take pictures and watch the animals a for a while before we reboarded our Safari vehicle and finished the tour.
Overall we had such a great time and I would love to do this tour again some day.
